Happiness and the Law of Attraction
The law of attraction is a profound and interesting theory. What intrigues me most about this idea is how simple and far-reaching it appears. I am also amazed at how intuitively true the idea seems. I believe that the law of attraction was popularized by Esther Hicks, and I am sure the idea pre-dates her involvement. I think that the law of attraction has its roots in ideas that surfaced in Greek and Roman philosophy. More recently, Steve Pavlina has written a good article about LoA.
My background is in physics and engineering, and I have a decidedly naturalistic and mechanistic personal worldview, yet these opinions do not weaken my belief in the reality of the law of attraction. I deal with pseudoscience talk about “vibrations” by recognizing that these ideas are metaphors with explanatory power. I explain references to spiritual channeling by Esther Hicks as a kind of explanatory style that she personally uses to communicate her ideas. Ultimately, I believe that one does not need to believe in supernaturalism in order to believe in the reality of the law of attraction.
What you think about becomes your reality. Your reality is dependant on where you focus your thoughts. The good news is that you have executive control of your thoughts. We are in control of our reality and can mold it as we wish. I talk more about these ideas in my article about focus.
Tonight I sat down and watched the movie called The Secret with my family. I enjoyed the movie because it helped me to reinforce my thoughts about how the Law of Attraction can be used to achieve complete happiness. I think that watching The Secret with family and friends is a great way to trigger discussion about happiness and personal development. Perhaps the movie will help us all find allies that will join us in our quest for greater happiness.
