Stop! and Focus on the Positive Aspects
Whenever you notice any area of your life that feels less than positive in any way, stop and immediately focus on at least three things that are positive about that area.
Scan your external environment; for instance, scan your workplace or your home or your clothes or your appearance, or anything for negative thoughts. Now scan your internal environment for negative thoughts, scan your vision of the future or your interpretation of the past. If you can identify any aspect of your life that you are considering in a negative way, change it. Immediately think of how you can turn that negative area into a positive one. Think of at least three reasons why that area of your life is positive.
Try writing out a few reasons why this negative area of your life is good. Tell your significant other, or even a stranger, what you like about this apparently negative aspect of your life. Tell your coworkers why you think that this negative area is really a blessing in disguise.
Turn the negative situation into a positive one. Do this consciously and on-purpose. Schedule a regular time in the day when you perform this exercise. Do this every night during dinner with your family. Get in the habit of developing a supple and flexible mind, a mind that can change perspectives rapidly.
