Can you be happier than a billionaire?
Can you be happier than a billionaire? Do billionaires ever get depressed? Do you want to be a billionaire? Why? Are you willing to sacrifice your life to become a billionaire? Are you willing to go to work everyday at a job you do not like? Are you willing to kill or commit crimes to become a billionaire? Are billionaires as happy as you imagine them to be?
Can you be happier than the most famous person in Hollywood? Do you think fame will make you happy? It seems that the most famous person in Hollywood (at least on the Internet) is Britney Spears. Can you be happier than Britney Spears? Is it even theoretically possible?
Can you be happier than the most beautiful swimsuit model in Paris? Will being beautiful make you happy? Kate Moss is beautiful, yet she is a cocaine addict. Is it possible for a beautiful model to be depressed? Why do you want to be beautiful?
The problem is that no matter how wealthy you are, or how famous, or how beautiful, after a few months YOU ADAPT to your new level of money, fame and beauty, and you return to your original level of happiness.
Money, fame and beauty, do however, increase your subjective estimated utility (SEU) and increase your level of fitness in your external environment. If you are diagnosed with cancer and you are a beautiful, famous, billionaire then you have a greater chance of getting the proper treatment and living longer. Beauty, fame and wealth however do not guarantee happiness. Thus, choose to pursue happiness and maximize SEU at the same time.
