You are Your Own Victim
When you decide to become upset, sad or afraid, who are you hurting? Do you imagine that by feeling bad you help the situation? Does getting upset and excited solve your problems?
At first it may appear that your problems are solved by your upset, though these are short-term victories. Tomorrow you will encounter another problem, then another problem. If you believe that anger solves problems, then as each problem arises you feel more anger, and then more anger. After a while you feel anger all the time.
Some embrace their negative emotions because they believe that it is these emotions that motivate them to action. True, negative emotions are motivational. Though, isn’t it possible that positive emotions can motivate a person too? People can be motivated by love, pleasures and positive emotions of all sorts.
Give yourself permission to stop victimizing yourself right now. Try an experiment, refuse to entertain negative emotions for one week. Afterwards, decide for yourself whether you want to continue thinking positively.
You are in control. You always have been in control.
