Happiness…Someday?

Every time you say ‘I’ll be happy someday’, you delay happiness. You also deny happiness for yourself in that moment. You potentially deny yourself happiness in the long-term. People deny themselves happiness all the time. People usually deny themselves happiness because they have a false set of beliefs about happiness.

Your false beliefs about happiness are preventing you from being happy. Recognize that the truth is that you can have happiness this very second, in any second. All that it takes is a little effort and the ability to change your mind.

There are many beliefs that people use to deny themselves happiness, namely:

  1. If you pursue happiness consciously, you will never attain happiness
  2. Acting happy is not true happiness, nor does it lead to happiness.
  3. Happiness is genetic. A person is either born happy, or not.
  4. If I make myself happy then I will not be motivated to be productive and strive for what I want
  5. Happiness is boring
  6. Being happy will completely change my life, and I don’t think that I can handle that change
  7. Real men can’t be happy, being happy is a feminine trait
  8. Only God can make one happy
  9. I can’t do my duty and be happy at the same time, it is impossible

If you share any of the above beliefs, think for a moment and question that belief. Challenge that belief; can you really know that your belief is true? Can you absolutely know that it is true? Can you prove it?

The false beliefs you have about happiness keep you in terrible pain. The pain that you experience is voluntary. All you need to do is have the courage to challenge your beliefs. The reward is a lifetime of happiness.

The stakes could not be higher.
