A Thousand Names for Joy
The last few days I have been on a ski vacation at Bear Mountain Ski Resort in Big Bear, CA, so I have not had the opportunity to post to the blog. I have been reading a new book that I acquired from the library called “A Thousand Names for Joy: A Guide for Living in Harmony with the Way Things Are” by Byron Katie.
The book is helping me focus on the stories that I tell myself, and it is helping me to question those stories. The stories that I tell myself are the source of stress and unhappiness in my life. All of my stories are variations on a theme, “This is the way my life is, and this is the way my life should be - isn’t that terrible?” Byron Katie’s techniques help one to question their beliefs.
For those who have not noticed, I am real fan of Byron Katie. To me her work seems to be fresh and very stimulating. The techniques she has developed seem to provide radical and enlightening perspectives about one’s beliefs. Maybe I will create a series of blog articles analyzing some of the ideas that I find in her most recent book.
