Series on A Thousand Names for Joy (ATNFJ)

I thought that I would do I series of blog posts exploring the ideas in Byron Katie’s ATNFJ.

The preface of ATNFJ is written by Stephen Mitchell, I believe that this is Byron Katie’s husband. The preface talks a lot about the Tao Te Ching, and it slowly becomes apparent that the format of the book will loosely follow the Tao. This is true, as there are 81 chapters in the book, which mirror the 81 chapters in the Tao. Each chapter starts with quotation from the Tao, though sometimes these quotations are modified slightly.

I have not yet read the Tao, so ATNFJ just might be the trigger that inspires me to read it. Can anyone who has read the Tao recommend the book? Is it a good read?

Miguel, I highly recommend the Tao, especially the Stephen Mitchell translation (yes, he is married to Byron Katie). The Tao is one of my all-time favorites. “A Thousand Names for Joy” mirrors the Tao because Byron is actually giving her take on each of the 81 passages from the Tao, hence the identical format. Be well.
