Everything That Happens is Good for Me

Is everything that happens good for me? I say yes. There are always reasons to be happy about things that happen, or don’t happen.

What if I go bankrupt? How is that good for me?

It is true that bankruptcy might not at first appear to be good for me financially, but consider this:

  1. I might start saving more money
  2. I might identify the real reasons why I went bankrupt and vow not to duplicate my mistakes
  3. I might attempt to try new and creative techniques to get financing for my business projects, techniques that I have been meaning to try for a long time, but hadn’t until now
  4. I might better define my financial goals

Other aspects of my life might benefit from bankruptcy as well,

  1. Relationships, I might decide to spend more time with my family
  2. Work life, I might reconsider aspects of my work life, reduce stress
  3. Relationships, I might find common ground with new business partners who have been bankrupt themselves
  4. Emotional, I might reconsider what I really need to be happy
  5. Self-esteem, I might gain confidence working with the IRS

We live in a benevolent universe. Reality is seldom as bad as the stories we tell about it.

Recently I listened to a tape-cassette series that featured the Dalai Lama called “The Art of Happiness”. In it, the Dalai Lama described some of the benefits that he has enjoyed since China invaded his home country of Tibet. Granted, if there is any advocate for the freedom of Tibet it is the Dalai Lama, yet even the Lama could not deny the upside. Specifically, the Lama was grateful for his world travels and the opportunity to meet so many new people.

There are good and bad aspects to every event. Spend your time noticing the good aspects.
