Awareness: Master Key to Happiness
The very moment that you make a long-term, committed decision to be happy, a long journey of ever-increasing awareness begins.
Because all emotional pain (as opposed to physical pain) is voluntary and self-inflicted, we all have an amazing opportunity to rise above our unhappiness.
Becoming aware of, and acting against your tendencies to create emotional pain is a life-long endeavor.
In general, people around you are unhappy because,
- They haven’t made a committed decision to be happy and
- They don’t have a deep-seated intention to become aware of all the ways they habitually make themselves unhappy
- And consequently, they haven’t changed their thinking habits
Restated positively,
- Decide to be happy, really commit to be happy no matter what
- Implement a plan to become aware of all the ways you habitually make yourself unhappy
- Change your life and your thinking habits to make happiness more likely

Staying happy is definitely a choice we can make as opposed to being unhappy.
Abraham Lincoln once said, “Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”
