Awareness: Master Key to Happiness

The very moment that you make a long-term, committed decision to be happy, a long journey of ever-increasing awareness begins.

Because all emotional pain (as opposed to physical pain) is voluntary and self-inflicted, we all have an amazing opportunity to rise above our unhappiness. 

Becoming aware of, and acting against your tendencies to create emotional pain is a life-long endeavor.    

In general, people around you are unhappy because,

  1. They haven’t made a committed decision to be happy and
  2. They don’t have a deep-seated intention to become aware of all the ways they habitually make themselves unhappy
  3. And consequently, they haven’t changed their thinking habits

Restated positively,

  1. Decide to be happy, really commit to be happy no matter what
  2. Implement a plan to become aware of all the ways you habitually make yourself unhappy
  3. Change your life and your thinking habits to make happiness more likely

    Staying happy is definitely a choice we can make as opposed to being unhappy.
    Abraham Lincoln once said, “Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”
