The 30-Second Happiness Challenge

Imagine that you are an actor who is being paid big bucks to appear very happy. Your happiness performance must be convincing in every way. After all, your performance will be shown on television and be beamed all over the world.

Perform the exercise for a full 30 seconds. Use a watch if you have to. You can do the exercise anywhere. You can stand in front of a mirror or simply walk down the street. Go ahead…try it.

Explore what it is like to be totally happy. How does it feel? What does it look like?

What do your arms do? What does your face do?

What do your legs do? How do you walk? Do you laugh a lot? What does your smile look like?  

This exercise is useful because it calls upon your current understanding of what it is to be happy. What does being happy look like – for you?

Afterwards, ask yourself, what did you learn? How can you apply this knowledge the next time you want to be happy?

The next time, get happy for a full 1 minute, then 5, 30, 1 hour and then 1 day. If you can be happy no matter what for a full day, then you are all done.
