The Myth of the External Trigger

Most people seem to be looking for happiness on the outside. There is this belief that there is an external trigger that one can find \”out there\” that starts the happiness juices flowing in your brain. If only you could place yourself in the correct life situation. Is correct life situation here? There? *pointing* Maybe the correct life situation is way out there! *pointing*

The fact is that whatever your life situation, all the facts of that situation filter through your mental belief system. In the end it is your mental belief system that makes the final evaluation about whether to start the happiness juices flowing.

There is no external trigger, there is only your belief system and the internal rules you have about when you give yourself permission to be happy.

Great post Miguel and thanks for the inspiration! So true! I’d like to add the fact that when we make the inner decisions you laid out so well at this site — that chemical hormones are revved up in the brain to bring about the predicted results.

This can work against happiness (as a result of cortisol) and it can work for happiness (as a result of seritonin). Just another wee angle to the interesting discussion here - because people can use their brain chemicals for amazing results! What do you think?
